Can't fool Callie!

Callie is 2.5 years old - and you can't fool this girl! Here are some of our failed attempts!

C wasn't too keen on a spinach/mango smoothie I made for her. Pffft - yuck she would say and push it away. I had put that smoothie away in the fridge and switched it to a different cup in the afternoon and offered it to her again. "Pfft yuck! That's not funny!" Whoops- I guess you really didn't like it! Sorry Callie!

There's a swim coverup that Callie has really grown out of - I still use it after swim class since we just throw it on and head home.
C: does this dress cover my diaper?
Me: uhhh well it is a little short, but yes it covers it... Most of it.
C: I need pants mommy!
(C proud of herself for being able to hold moo moo and pick up her shoes!)

Road trip #3

We spent the next day in Monterey at the Monterey aquarium.  There was a great complimentary breakfast buffet at portola where they made the most delicious omelets - complete with fresh avocado... Yum!!

A rush to the aquarium afterwards, we passed by some sea otters in the bay - so adorable! We had gotten deals for tickets off Craig's list and saved $30 off list price from some little punk kid. I felt guilty after - just didn't seem right!

Callie was so excited to see dory and nemo!

Family pic in the blue clamshell!
They had a cute play area. Callie was Callie whale and she did art rubbings. She drew a picture of our family by making some blue (callie), yellow (mommy), green (daddy) and orange (moo moo) markings. It was too too cute!

Later, after a nap in the stroller on the way home - the kids hung out on our hotel room while we celebrated Jackson's bday with some presents.

We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant and enjoyed some free popcorn while waiting for our table. Fun times!

Roadtrip part #2

After waking up to a mommy and baby deer in the field outside our deck, we headed out to point lobos! It was beautiful!
View of china bay(?)

Callie enjoyed the views but wasn't to keen on riding in the stroller despite the poison oak in the area, so we didn't stay for too long. She took a little nap in the car while we drove through the 17 mile drive north of Carmel. Mike particularly enjoyed this part of the trip since he didn't need to leave the car!

We checked in to portola hotel and got some delicious warm cookies. Ate some yummy sandwiches at an Italian cafe across the way and spent the rest of the afternoon with The Yungs at Denice the Menance park. Callie loved it! Maddy and Jackson were such great kids - it was adorable watching them play together and sharing/taking turns and helping each other out!

Helping each other with the drinking fountain!
We had a delicious dinner in downtown - where C and M had a great time singing the Itsy bitsy spider. We got back and slept pretty darn late! 11pm for Callie! Yikes!

And our first day in Monterey came to an end. :)

Road trip

This past week we've been on a road trip up through the central CA coast.

We started our day driving to morrow bay where the have a big rock by the water. We ate a lovely burger lunch with a view!

That evening we made it to Big Sur! It's a beautiful drive up the 1 freeway and I don't think pictures would ever do it justice.

Waiting in the lobby during check in - it was a bit bumpy of a process, but it was a nice cabin that had a deck that overlooked a grassy area. There was no cell reception, wifi or TV.  When we got in - Callie went right to the sofa and sat in front of the fireplace and said - "mommy can you turn on the TV?" Me: "Callie, that is a fireplace, not a TV." C: "so it is a pretend TV?" Me: "yes sweetie, a pretend TV." It was definitely an adjustment for us both!

That evening we went on a hike through their nature trail - which was covered with poison oak! Callie was not too fond if the baby carrier, so mike and I were mostly just sweating trying to make sure Callie didn't touch anything!

That night, mike and I enjoyed the fireplace and looked forward to s'mores with Callie!

The next morning, Callie and I had a nice morning outside on the deck eating our muffin and drinking coffee. A blue bird hopped right on our deck! He was watching us and hopping all around. I think he wanted Callie's muffin but she thinks he wanted my coffee.

That afternoon, we ate at Nepenthe - which had a beautiful view! It's obvious why big sur is a destination for romantic getaways and spiritual retreats! We had a fancy cheese plate, clam chowder and their ambrosia burger.

We later went on a hike to mcway falls in Julia pfieffer state park. It was a nice little hike but Callie had a bit of a tumble and scraped her hand and knee.

A nap later, we were enjoying another hike overlooking the ocean amongst wild flowers in Andrew molera state park.

Finally a stop for ice cream at the blue bus, Callie's first s'more and day #2 came to a close.
